Support Full Federal Funding for High-Speed Rail

URGE THE SENATE TO MATCH THE HOUSE’S $4 BILLION HIGH-SPEED RAIL APPROPRIATION

Right now, Congress is finalizing this year's transportation appropriations bill, which could include an historic investment in high speed passenger rail.

Last month, the US House of Representatives passed a bill that included $4 billion for high-speed rail. The Senate cut the allocation down to $1.2 billion in their version, which passed last week. The two bills will now move to a conference committee, where they will decide the final amount of investment.

The conference committee will be meeting soon in hopes of finalizing the bill by the end of the month. We'd like to send them a roster of support by the end of the week, so we need sign-ons quickly, preferably by the close of business on Wednesday, September 23rd.

Please help us achieve our goal!  Thank you for your support.

This sign-on letter is a joint project of the Midwest High Speed Rail Association and WISPIRG.

Petition Text
Dear Member of Congress:

Please support the full $4 billion investment in high-speed passenger rail.

The undersigned citizens, organizations, municipalities, and public officials of Wisconsin urge Congress to support a $4 billion investment in high-speed passenger rail in the final FY 2010 transportation appropriations bill.

High-speed passenger rail will provide clean, safe, reliable and efficient travel between America's population centers. Long-term federal investment in rail will also create tens of thousands of quality American jobs in states that have experienced losses in the technology, construction, and engineering sectors over the last decade.

Please support the full $4 billion investment in high speed passenger rail in the final transportation appropriations bill.
